“Today, Otis Redding’s dazzling career is eclipsed by the accident that ended his life. Redding’s genius is often just a footnote to the tragedy, which adds to the heartbreak. Put on this album and listen, not for clues that foreshadow his death, but for glimpses of the soul of a man who dared to dream big. Listen for the son who abandoned high school to put money on the table, for the proud husband and father who succeeded beyond his family’s wildest dreams. Sacrifice, joy, tenderness, satisfaction: it’s all there in his voice.” – Andria Lisle
